## About this course

Parametric Architecture with Blender is a two-day course on PAACADEMY that teaches advanced fluid and organic architectural modeling workflows in Blender for participants with a basic to intermediate Blender background. The curriculum covers subdivision modeling, parametric modeling via Blender Modifiers, and Geometry Nodes for Grasshopper and Houdini-like procedural capabilities within Blender. Participants build a catalog of architectural and mesh typologies through an iterative design process and produce final project renderings using Blender Cycles. Affinity Photo is used for post-processing.

## What you'll learn

- Develop a solid understanding of Blender for Architectural design

- Efficiently create parametric models

- Acquire proficiency in subdivision modeling techniques

- Produce project renderings using Blender’s Cycles rendering engine effectively

- Work proficiently with Geometry Nodes

## Methodology

The workflows you will learn are crafted to give you as much iterative design freedom as possible. You will learn methodologies for modeling in an extremely efficient and smart fashion that lets you make adjustments to your models and see the results. At the same time, we will be exploring the concept of Beauty in architecture and how we can achieve more beautiful projects via the iterative design process that Blender allows for.

Students will work individually and learn subdivision workflows in Blender.

Architecture is about Beauty. How do you get beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, and functional results? We typically have to iterate through many potential solutions that address the project’s requirements and the designer’s aspirations. Having tools that enable the designer to iterate and filter through the various potential concepts that address these programmatic requirements will allow the team to move faster through the concept design process.

In this workshop, the focus will be on organic fluid modeling. We will be creating a catalog of related building and mesh typologies. This will be achieved by learning how subdivision modeling works in Blender and how the software can be utilized parametrically with Modifiers and Geometry Nodes.

As a generalist 3D modeling and animation app, Blender contains numerous easy-to-use parametric capabilities that allow users to generate procedural models via modifiers quickly. Furthermore, Geometry Nodes has introduced Grasshopper and Houdini-like capabilities with Blender, further enabling parametric design opportunities.

## FAQ

### What software is used in the Parametric Architecture with Blender course?
The course uses Blender as the primary tool, covering its subdivision modeling workflows, Modifiers system, and Geometry Nodes for parametric design. Affinity Photo is used for post-processing rendered outputs, though a similar photo editing program can be substituted if needed.

### What does the Parametric Architecture with Blender course cover?
The course covers fluid and organic architectural modeling using subdivision techniques, parametric iteration via Blender Modifiers, and procedural design using Geometry Nodes. Participants build a catalog of architectural building and mesh typologies, develop an understanding of iterative concept design in Blender, and produce rendered project outputs using the Cycles rendering engine.

### What level of Blender experience is required for this course?
The course is designed for users with a basic understanding of Blender and intermediate users looking to deepen their architectural design skills. Complete beginners to Blender are not the primary audience, as the workshop moves directly into advanced fluid modeling and parametric workflows rather than introducing Blender fundamentals from scratch.

### What will I produce by the end of this Blender architecture course?
Participants complete a catalog of fluid and organic architectural forms developed through subdivision modeling and Geometry Nodes, along with final project renderings produced in Blender Cycles. The outputs demonstrate a parametric architectural design workflow applicable to concept development and portfolio presentation.
