Beyond BIM: Fredy Fortich Integrating AI into Architectural Practice

A dynamic world of architecture, where innovation and creation embrace the future of living, one such individual stands out for his visionary approach and forward-thinking experimentations. Fredy Fortich, a Colombian-born Architect and Engineer, is a master of computational design, Revit BIM coordination, performance-based and generative design, and the application of machine learning in architectural portrayals.

He is actively revolutionizing the future of intelligent design and is known for his workshops and lectures at platforms such as NORDFY, Torino Biennale Tecnologia, PAAcademy, and others.  He is currently working with the world-renowned design firm MVRDV as a technical architect and BIM manager, shaping the role of AI in diverse projects alongside studio Directors and Architects.

Integrating technically innovative approaches, this project exemplifies the power of intentional reuse, not just conserving, but a powerful, expressive building that is sustainable and socially engaging.  Saving up to 80% of concrete, the building form emerges with a vibrant multicoloured exterior frames shading the structure and parking space transformed into a public plaza, contributing to the child & family focus.

2. Tencent P5

Located on the Northern end of Tencent’s Qianhai Bay campus, Shenzhen, China, Tencent P5 comprises 11 residential towers and a kindergarten, promoting community and recreational activities. All units are identical in size and layout, featuring a balcony or bay window for beautiful panoramic views. Designed as a cluster, the towers are arranged around green courtyards and terraces ranging from 57 to 100m. It is designed to gain top-tier environmental standards, reflecting the broader smart city vision.

3. Irwell Hill Residences

Two 36-story blocks accommodating 540 units were conceptualized by MVRDV and designed by ADDP Architects in a prefabricated prefinished volumetric construction (PPVC) for the first time in redefining sustainable high-rise living in Singapore. For organic expression, inspired by climbing plants, the Champagne-gold prefabricated modules act as pixelated aesthetics arranged in patterns to incorporate passive design strategies and eco-friendly low-VOC materials.

As part of his continued effort to democratize intelligent design, Fredy Fortich will lead a hands-on online workshop titled Generative Architecture with AI 2.0 (SD + FLUX + Video) on August 2–3, 2025, organized by PAACADEMY. This advanced session delves into AI-driven design workflows using tools like ControlNet, LoRas, and SDXL, guiding architects in transforming 3D massing into cinematic visualizations with precision and creative control.

AuthorPriyanshi Shah
Priyanshi Shah, is an architectural content writer who sees architecture as a reflection of life itself. She blends her love for reading, traveling, and poetry to explore how spaces shape the way we live, think, and feel. Curious about the human-centric design, she dives into philosophy, psychology, and neuroarchitecture to better understand the deep connection between people and places. For her, every city is a story waiting to be told - and writing is how she brings those stories to life. She believes that learning never ends and hopes her work sparks new ways of seeing the world through profound architectural narratives.
