The Parametric Optimizations Workshop focuses on managing design data and optimizing projects for sustainability and performance using Ladybug and LunchBox.
This intensive two-day workshop dives into the power of SubD modeling in Rhino, real-time visualization with Enscape, and the integration of AI tools to enhance architectural workflows. Through a blend of theoretical introductions and guided hands-on exercises, participants will develop a conceptual design from scratch, refining complex geometries and producing compelling renderings using cutting-edge tools.
Whether you’re new to SubD or looking to elevate your visualization game, this workshop offers a structured pathway to mastering both form generation and presentation techniques in a short timeframe.
What You’ll Learn?
Create and edit complex forms using Rhino’s SubD tools
Develop a complete conceptual model through guided exercises
Optimize geometry for rendering and visualization workflows
Set up materials, lighting, and camera views in Enscape
Enhance visual outputs with ReRenderAI and Gemini
Produce polished final renderings ready for presentation
Methodology:
The workshop emphasizes hands-on learning through a structured sequence of demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual exploration. Participants will follow a prepared parametric design example, applying SubD techniques step-by-step to build and refine their models.
Key workflows will be demonstrated live, with time allocated for troubleshooting and personalized guidance. Once the geometry is finalized, the focus shifts to visualization, where participants will set up real-time rendering environments and experiment with AI tools to elevate their outputs.
This session explores how to design and refine wavy 3D patterns in Rhino SubD, focusing on commands like crease, bridge, and edge loop insertion
Rhino Design Development (57:57)
Building SubD Architectural Structure Workflow
This session demonstrates how to model an elegant SubD-based architectural structure in Rhino, starting from SubD-friendly curves and progressively developing elements like spans, elevated walkways, platforms, balustrades, and landscaped surfaces
SubD Massing (55:53)
Sculpting SubD Lake House
This session develops a flowing SubD “lake house” form in Rhino from a simple sphere, using extrusions, edge sliding, creasing, insets, and additional edge loops to sculpt droplet-like massing, layered shells, balconies, and roof cuts that transition smoothly into the landscape.
Exploring 3D Mesh Techniques (47:36)
Advanced 3D Modeling Workflow
This session covers detailed 3D modeling workflows, including edge flow management, mesh adjustments, stitching techniques, and inset creation
Twisted SubD tower workflow (01:03:17)
Twisted SubD Tower Modeling
This session walks through building a twisted SubD tower in Rhino by shaping a plaza base, mirroring geometry, refining edge flow, bridging surfaces, and preparing clean topology for Enscape rendering and AI comparison.
SubD Tower Refinement Workflow (01:05:51)
SubD refinement, bridging, façade patterning
This session walks through refining SubD tower geometry in Rhino by tightening edge loops, correcting topology, resolving symmetry and bridge-fold issues, shaping distinct tower silhouettes, extracting glazing panels, and testing Lunchbox-style triangulated façade patterns.
AI Render Workflow Basics (51:59)
AI renders, Enscape setup, materials
This session demonstrates how to generate quick AI-assisted renders from Rhino models—first without Enscape, then with custom materials—while covering screenshot preparation, prompt testing in Gemini and ReRender AI, troubleshooting inconsistent outputs, and assigning Enscape materials such as metal, glass, concrete, and grass for clearer design evaluation.
AI Rendering Iteration Workflow (35:46)
AI rendering, troubleshooting, material preservation
This session walks through testing AI-assisted rendering workflows by moving between Enscape, ReRender AI, and Gemini, showing how to adjust materials, preserve textures, troubleshoot failed assets, iterate prompts for landscape and façade changes, and superimpose multiple outputs to refine the final architectural image.
